The AP Psychology course is meant to prepare students for the rigors of a college - level Intro to Psychology course. The class is not easy, and neither is the AP Test. Unlike the AP History courses, however, it only focuses on a small, specific set of skills that students must demonstrate to do well on the Test at the end of the schoolyear.
A major focus of the course is teaching students to recognize psychological ideas, understand basic statistical analysis, and scrutinize basic psychological research. This requires students to develop these three key skills over the year:
- Concept Understanding
- Be able to define and apply key concepts
- Be able to explain human and/or animal behavior within a given context
- Be able to apply psychological theories within a given context
- Data Analysis
- Be able to analyze and interpret quantitative data
- Scientific Investigation
- Be able to analyze psychological research studies
